Don't let the summer-time heat ruin your fishing. By June or July it starts to really heat up, making most people want to call it quits early in the day. I think this is unfortunate, because some of the best fishing around is available, if you just go a little bit later. At night everything cools down to make for a much more comfortable and exciting experience. This is one of my favorite insider secrets, and I'm here to tell you how to do.

First of all, NEVER go out alone! Many things can happen while navigating waterways after dark and or while wade fishing! Here are a few safety tips:

* Check that your night navigation equipment works properly, and that you and/or your fishing buddy know the area well.

* While navigating, wear your P.D.F.'s.

* Make sure that someone back on the mainland knows where and when you will be fishing.

* Go ahead and plan ahead of time where you want to fish, preferably up to 3 spots just in case!

HOW: When you get to the first fishing spot, anchor up and turn the boat light on. This can keep other watercraft from running into it, as well as giving you a sense of direction while walking around in the dark. Next, you need a LED headlamp to wear. These are a must-have piece of fishing equipment, and are available pretty cheaply in most sporting goods stores.

In addition to the headlamps, get some glow sticks as well. These are the type that activate and light up when you bend/crack/shake them. What you do is tie the glow stick to some string and hang it like a necklace, draping down over your back. This will also help to prevent boaters from coming too close, and keep your fishing partner from hitting you with a lure. Worst case scenario, it can also be a good emergency backup light to get to the boat. While wading, don't get too far apart.

WHEN: I prefer to fish in the time before, during and after a full moon because of the extra light it provides. If you are using a dark topwater lure it will stand out that much better to those predator fish. The key is to use what I call the "Donk's Tangler". What you do is tie about a foot of line to the front ring on a top water lure, and then attach a dark-colored soft plastic lure on the back end with a very light fishing hook.

Yes, it sounds crazy, but I promise it works. You work this rig just like you would any other topwater, but will get way more strikes on the trailing lure! If you are using braided fishing line with this setup you will have even more sensitivity for when the fish strike.

Solunar tables can be another useful tool. What I try to do is fish two hours before through 2 hours after what the tables call a "major feeding period". This tends to have the best results for me, but isn't a guarantee by any means.

If a laboratory is not listed on AABB then it is not accredited. It does not matter what the website claims. It is not an accredited laboratory unless it is listed.

Even using an AABB accredited laboratory does not guarantee correct results. All AABB accredited laboratories must follow accepted procedures and test to minimum levels of discrimination. Each individual laboratory must decide what level of testing is acceptable in their laboratory and what additional precautions they will take.

If you have a DNA test with an unaccredited laboratory there is no guarantee that the test was performed correctly or that it was performed at all. Testing with an AABB accredited laboratory gives you assurance that a minimum level of testing was performed and that it was performed using correct procedures. Testing with an AABB accredited laboratory that has high level guarantees helps to ensure that you will receive a correct answer.

If you search the internet, it may appear that there are hundreds of AABB accredited DNA laboratories. When you check the AABB website you will find approximately 40 accredited laboratories. If a laboratory is not on the AABB website it is not an accredited laboratory. If it is not on the AABB website, then it is likely that it is not a laboratory at all. It is probably someone that created a website and is selling tests. They are probably sending your test to the least expensive place they can find if they are testing it at all.

An incorrect paternity test may be the result of fraud, poor laboratory procedures, or inadequate amounts of testing. DNA test results are only as reliable as the laboratory performing the test.

The best way to protect against incorrect test results is to utilize a laboratory that is reliable and guarantees a high degree of discrimination. If you believe that you are the victim of an incorrect paternity test, then you should have a second test to verify the initial result.
